Whippoorwill

WHIPPOORWILL is a montage of over twenty characters living in, or
traveling to, the small town of Lizard Flats in the Kansas Territories.
The central story revolves around the impending arrival of the Reverend
Randall Howe. The reverend is coming to Lizard Flats to perform the
wedding ceremony of the town banker, Alfonso Worthy, and the widow Sophie
Hollis. He doesn't know that he will also be asked to preside over a
funeral, a christening, and a wedding or two. Mr. Howe is also in for a
surprise visit from a young woman with vengeance on her mind.
Leticia Murphy wound up in Lizard Flats when she was a twelve-year-old
orphan. She works nightly at The White Dove Saloon and is the town's only
"sporting lady." Letty still has hope that her life will change, and each
night she stands on her balcony and listens for the call of the
Whippoorwill to garner the strength, and hope, she needs for the coming
night. Deep in her heart she prays that the preacher that is coming to
town will be able to change her life.
Eulis Potter is the town drunk. Eulis is an ex soldier that was stationed
at a fort in the Territories and after he was discharged he ended up at
The White Dove and stayed, where he works for free drinks. Eulis doesn't
care about the preacher coming to town, but he should; more than anyone in
Lizard Flats his life will be changed when Mr. Howe finally gets to Lizard
Flats.
WHIPPOORWILL is a mesmerizing story that is filled with hope and despair,
life and deaths, births and rebirths, friends and lovers, and the very
good at heart versus the truly evil. Sharon Sala has created beautiful
strong, but flawed, characters that are truly unforgettable. This is a
tale that calls to all of our emotions; it brings smiles and laughter, and
sadness and tears. Above all it is a poignant story of love and
redemption.
