November 2004
Newsletter

Every once in a while I know some of you have received duplicate
copies of the newsletter. This month we hope we have taken
care of that problem. We have changed our email list program.
This one should be more stable. Thanks for hanging in there with us!
I can't believe the end of the year is almost in sight again.
The older I get, the faster time seems to go by. My mother
always told me that, but you don't release how true it is until you
get to be "that age" too. This year I told myself that I would
have all of my Christmas shopping over and done with by
Thanksgiving. With only 3 weeks till deadline, it now feels
like an impossible task. But we'll see. At least the
weather has gotten cold enough to put me more in the spirit.
Shopping for Christmas when it is 90 degrees outside is a bit much.
I just can't get into the spirit.
Next month, be sure to check your Romance Authors Page
newsletter. Debbie Macomber has graciously given us all of her
angel books for our Romance Authors Page drawing and one lucky
winner will walk away with them all. Remember Shirley,
Goodness and Mercy? This series is still immensely popular.
Best of luck to you all.

Nearly three weeks and 5,000 miles
later, my husband and I are still speaking. Hey, not only speaking,
but eagerly anticipating other road trips. Now I call that true
love!
We motored from Arkansas all the way to the Oregon coast and back.
Along the way we visited family in Bend, OR, and Reno, NV, and
discovered two new national parks: Lassen Volcano Park and Great
Basin Park, both well worth the side trip. Staying in a lovely B&B
right on the Pacific, I got my long-overdue "ocean fix" and
accumulated a lovely collection of multi-colored rocks gathered on
the beach. A highlight on our return journey was a foray into Rocky
Mountain National Park in Colorado where we stood in silent
amazement witnessing bull elks herding their harems. The sound of
the rival bulls’ bugling was unlike anything we had ever heard. I
felt as if we were starring, along with the elk, of course, in a
Disney nature film. Surely somewhere in our travels I accumulated
material for a book!
Speaking of which, I am just finishing my latest, tentatively titled
SECOND HONEYMOON, which will be a Superromance release in September
of 2005. I will send it off just in time to get really serious about
holiday shopping.
Wishing all of you a beautiful fall season!
Laura Abbot
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
This is the time of year to stop and take a breath and remind myself
to focus on what I DO have in my life, not on what I don't have.
(Honestly, I try to do this every day!) I am grateful for so many
things. The wonderful country we live in, where we have the freedom
to speak our minds and practice our beliefs publicly. To those of
you who live in other countries, I wish you the same freedoms. I'm
grateful for brave soldiers, who fight and die to preserve freedom
not just here at home, but in all corners of the earth. I'm grateful
for my family, who bring me joy (and yes, sometimes pain) and my
friends, who share those joys and pain. I am grateful for a career I
love and even more importantly, so incredibly grateful to all my
readers. You are all so special to me. I thank you for all your kind
words and continuing support. I am wealthy in what truly is
important in life.
Now for the fun stuff...I'M GIVING AWAY A THANKSGIVING BASKET! The
winner will be chosen November 19th. In addition, I'll be giving
away FIVE AUTOGRAPHED BOOKS, the winners also chosen on November
19th. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL! The winners will be posted on my
website.

YOU ASKED FOR IT--and it's finally

A Happy
Thanksgiving to you all, please stop by and drop me a note
anytime,

Howdy, y'all from down on the farm!
After a much-needed five inches of rain the ponds are full once again and
the wheat crop is up and flourishing. As ranchers we love to see those
bright green shoots spearing from the soil so our cattle herd will have
plenty of green forage to eat this winter! Plus, fall is my favorite time of
the year and the weather has been gorgeous. Even better, I have been able to
get out and enjoy it since I finished up the second book on contract that
will be out next August and I can take a breather before starting the next
book.
I hope all of you were able to find Texas Bride--the historical romance from
Harlequin in July--as well as the Christmas story in One Starry Christmas
that is out in October. Coming up next is The Last Honest Outlaw in
December. I'm presently making corrections on The Ranger's Woman which will
be out in April of '05. It will be on the shelves only two months after the
Harlequin American--Cupid and the Cowboy--will be released. I've been trying
to figure out why I have been so busy with writing and then stopping to do
corrections and proof reads on my books. It finally dawned on me that I will
have five books out in less that a year! But what can I say, I love to write
and after taking a two week break I'm ready to begin plotting the next book.
I hope all of you enjoy the new books that will be coming out and that you
have fun-filled holidays with family and friends.
All the best, Carol Finch (Connie Feddersen)
Dear Readers:
It finally feels like fall in Southern California. It's been raining
and naturally, the streets are slick and flooded and the traffic is
gridlocked. What better time to stay inside with a good book or get
ready for the Holidays a little early? I've read 44 Cranberry Point
by Debbie Macomber and I just finished Bet Me by Jennifer Cruise.
Jackie Collins recently appeared at my local Romance Writers of
America Orange County Chapter meeting, and I'm ready to start my
autographed copy of Hollywood Divorces.
About this time of year I start pulling out the china and crystal
and candles and keeping things close at hand for when family and
friends drop by. My favorite things include lighting candles with
scents like vanilla and pumpkin and cookie dough so that at least it
smells like I've been cooking!
For those of you who love to quilt, check out Quilt Magazine's
special issue #50 entitled, Big Block Quilts. I was thrilled to see
my own quilt featured in "The Last Stitch." It's a quilt I designed
and hand appliqued myself, but I turned to Janet Carroll, a friend
and fellow quilter, to do the machine stitching. The theme is a huge
angel floating above Hanalei Bay on Kauai. I entitled it "In Heaven
by the Sea." You can order one of the magazines at
www.quiltmagazine.com. It's not too late to start a project for
Holiday giving.

Visit my website at
www.jillmarielandis.com for last minute news regarding contests
and give- aways and the upcoming title, Heartbreak Hotel, which will
be out next summer.
Until next time, be safe and stay warm,
Jill Marie
Hey ya'll,
It's raining in my part of Oklahoma tonight and a welcome rain it
is. Love the sound of rain on a roof and even more, I love to sit in
my porch swing and watch it pour. I have porches that run the entire
length of my house, front and back, and since my house is 80 feet
long, I have 160
feet of porch. Wahoo. Puppy, who is no longer a puppy but the name
stuck, is most usually laying somewhere nearby if I'm outside.
She's solid black except for one paw, which is black and white
spotted, like a Catahoula Cow dog. Don't know how to spell that, so
I just took a stab. Where's an editor when I need one?
Anyway, if I make too much noise when I'm outside, the three
half-grown kittens come up from the barn and take turns laying claim
to my lap. Their names are Charlie, Midnight and Tux, which is short
for Tuxedo. Picture a man in a tux and that's exactly the kitten's
coloring. Black all over with a white chin and belly and four white
feet. Charlie is brown with tiger
stripes and Midnight, the only female, is all black and spoiled
rotten. She rides on Bobby's shoulders when he's down at the barn
doing chores. I kid you not. Just sits up there like the Queen of
Sheba surveying all she owns. All three of them think they're dogs.
They ride in the back of the pickup to wherever Bobby's working, get
out and play while he's stopped, then jump back in and ride back to
the house when he's done. It cracks me up to see those little fuzzy
faces peering over the side of the truck bed. The only difference
between them and a dog is that their tongues are never hanging out.
My Grandson, Daniel, is intrigued with Halloween this year. He just
turned three, you see. He wanted to be a magician (because he has
some little video he loves that has a magician in it) so my
daughter, Kathy, made him a cape and a magic wand, which he calls a
Magit Wand (pronounced maggot, thank you very much). He also knows
that magit words must be spoken, like Abracadabra... only it
comes out 'baka-baka" from him. He doesn't yet have a top hat, which
is of major concern at this point, but has been making do with his
yellow, Bob The Builder, hard hat. He drags a two-foot long stuffed
bunny that I once gave Kathy for Easter (before the joys of
motherhood were part of her life) and ever so often, takes off his
hard hat and tries to stuff that huge bunny into the little yellow
hard hat. Kathy said it ticks him off to no end because no matter
how many times he swats the rabbit with the magit wand and yells
baka-baka, he can't get all of that rabbit into the hat.
On the business side of life, I have a new book out as of October
26. It's called MISSING, and is a Mira release under the Sharon Sala
name. I'm getting some fabulous feedback on it, which always makes
me happy, happy.

My mother just called me... it's 10:00 p.m.... to
tell me that Dolly Parton is going to have breast reduction surgery.
She read it in her Country Music magazine. I'm telling you all of
these disjointed little tidbits of information so that you can see
what my life is "really" like. My mother calls me a lot during the
day clear up until she goes to bed. I love that she's still
around to call me, but sometimes her phone calls crack me up. And,
at least once during each day when she calls, Bobby will yell out
loud enough for her to hear that he's needing some more cookies.
Mother is the best cookie baker in the world and she's always trying
new recipes. Hmmm, only part of the reason my diets rarely work.
Okay... I have to go now because Bobby is yelling at me from the
other end of this eighty-foot house. I'm not sure, but I'm guessing
that the Boston Red Sox have just won their fourth game, which means
the World Series will be over. Hallelujah. No, I'm not much of a
sports fan.
I'm having knee surgery on the 9th of November to repair a torn
cartilage in my left knee, which also happens to be the only real
knee I still possess. Had knee joint replacement surgery back in '98
or '99, I forget which, to repair damage that came from an accident
years ago, so I'm not looking forward to the grunt and hobble part
of recovery. However, it will
be nice to be able to walk again without so much pain. Say prayers
for me.
Here's to upcoming Turkey Day.
