LAURA ABBOT SENDS GREETING FROM SUNNY ARIZONA
http://www.nettrends.com/lauraabbot

Wherever you live, I hope spring is beginning to blossom around you. In an effort to flee the unusual amounts of ice and snow in Arkansas, my husband and I are spending two weeks in Arizona enjoying the warm, dry weather–first in Tucson, then in Prescott. We made a day trip to Sedona yesterday and were awed by the magnificence and beauty of the rock formations in that area. Even the photographs in ARIZONA HIGHWAYS can’t do them justice. As I write, we are getting ready for my first trip to the Grand Canyon and then on for two nights in Santa Fe on the way home. I first grew to love the Southwest the summer before my junior year in high school, when I spent time near Las Vegas, NM, with family friends of my mother’s. Although I’m not a visual artist, there is something about the quality of light out here that is soul-inspiring. Hmm. Maybe it will birth a new book??? I can always hope.

I will return home to a line-edit for MY NAME IS NELL, an October 2003 Superromance and further work on my current manuscript. But these days of R&R have been most welcome. By the time we get back, the first harbingers of spring–forsythia and redbud–will welcome us, to be followed by my favorite–the lovely wild dogwoods which grow in profusion in the Ozarks.

"If winter comes, can spring be far behind?"

SOMETHING'S FISHY AROUND THE DEBORAH SMITH HOUSEHOLD
http:/www.deborahsmith.com

Anybody want a goldfish? A very large goldfish? How about five or ten very large goldfishes?

Spring is goldfish giveaway time at the Smith house and ponds, where yours truly made the mistake of installing four fat little pet-store goldfish in the koi ponds a few years ago. Let's be clear on this: no one warns you that goldfish make rabbits look like amateurs in the let's-make-babies department. My four original goldfish have birthed about a hundred surviving babies, most of whom are now five inches long and heading rapidly toward Moby Dick size. When placed in a big pond and fed well, a cute little pet-store goldfish grows into a foot-long eating, pooping, getting-jiggy-with-it machine. On a recent warm day when the goldfish gang headed topside to catch some rays, my husband glanced out an upstairs window that looks down on the pond. He shrieked for me to come see. "We could start a sushi restaurant with this supply," he said.

Never fear. We don't eat our pets, even our submerged ones. We've had good luck in the past with a FREE GOLDFISH ad in the local newspaper, and we'll be doing that again as soon as the water warms up enough for yours truly to climb into the pond with the fish net. Catching the fish is no fun, because there's another thing the pet-store people don't warn you about: GOLDFISH ARE FAST.

On the subject of things with fins, I've been getting a lot of nice e-mail asking when the sequel to my mermaid fantasy, ALICE AT HEART, will be out. Keep an eye on www.deborahsmith.com for a late fall or early winter (2004) publication date. The title of book two in the WaterLilies series is TWO IF BY SEA.

I'm finishing up my next hardcover novel for Little, Brown, and the official title is now CHARMING GRACE. I'm having so much fun with this tale of a pompous movie star, a beautiful widow, and the star's hunky Cajun bodyguard. The widow, Grace, is determined to protect her late husband's legacy from the movie star's plan to film his life story. HCB (Hunky Cajun Bodyguard) falls in love with Grace (and vice versa), complicating things considerably. I'm really pleased with the new direction my career has taken since SWEET HUSH. Without deserting the emotional drama I love writing, I'm using a lot more comedy and a lighter touch. Great fun to write -- and hopefully, great fun to read!

That's all from the goldfish factory for now! Happy Spring!

GAYLE LYNDS HITS NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER LIST
http://www.nettrends.com/gaylelynds

Hello everyone,

What a nice day yesterday was.  A huge, gorgeous bouquet of springtime blossoms arrived from my publisher, congratulating me for The Paris Option's (by Robert Ludlum and Gayle Lynds) hitting the New York Times bestseller list in less than a week.  Talk about momentum!  My goodness, the early success and then the flowers took my breath away.

If you're a romantic like me, you may love Paris, too.  Some of my fondest memories are of wandering along the cobbled streets, stopping for espressos and croissants at some little cafe, and then meandering down to the Seine.  I adore the row of bookstalls along the embankment, where everything from an American romance novel to a gray East Bloc political thriller can be found.

The Hotel Diana is in the heart of Paris, one of those tall, Haussmann buildings with rows of shutters on the windows and a bidet in every bathroom. Half modern, half geriatric, it's just that right combination for fun and adventure in the City of Lights.

On the home front, I've just finished one novel and am in the process of finishing another.  For some insane reason, I allowed two deadlines to come almost on top of each other.  So believe me, that vase of lovely posies was a welcome relief, and now it's cheering me on.

Today my husband and I drive to Los Angeles for The Mystery Bookstore's annual birthday bash, with lots of authors, readers, and friends.  Later this month, we'll be in Fullerton for a Day of Authors, a special event that pours money into charities.  These days, that's particularly a good thing.

I send you all kinds of warm and happy thoughts for a lovely spring wherever you live, and may we meet in Paris!

BARBARA MCCAULEY'S THAT BLACKHAWK BRIDE ON WALDEN'S BESTSELLER LIST FOR 2 WEEKS + R.T. TOP PICK
http://www.barbaramccauley.com

Happy Spring!  Can't wait to get my veggies and flowers in, though the rain has hampered my progress. We're seeing some nice sunny days between rain here in California, so I'll have some pictures up on my website soon of my "work in progress"  Everyone please sign my guest book by March 31st to enter the contest for my Spring Basket.  Sandi will pick a name randomly and you'll receive a basket filled with goodies, including free books, chocolate, candle and more!

I'm one month old!  Well, at least my website is.  A big thank you to everyone who has visited me.  All your comments and kind words have truly been an inspiration for me.  I look forward to hearing more from you.

THAT BLACKHAWK BRIDE is off the shelves now, but I'm so happy to say it was on Walden's Bestseller List for two weeks, #2 and #4 slot and was a Romantic Times 4 1/2 Top Pick.  There will be more Blackhawks, but not for awhile.  I'm currently working a book for a Desire series--Dynasties: Danforth's.  The family is set in Savannah, old money, a political campaign, with mystery and scandal all mixed in.  My book, THE CINDERELLA SCANDAL, will launch the series in January 2003.  I'll let everyone know more as the time approaches.

My next book due out in May-- WHERE THERE'S SMOKE... is also a Dynasties book that revolves around the Barone family.  This one is set in Boston and my heroine, Emily Barone, has amnesia following a mysterious fire at the family's offices for their Gelato (Italian ice cream) company.  The hero, Shane Cummings, is the fireman who saves Emily's life and now feels he must protect her.  Emily is more than happy to oblige....   I'll have an excerpt up on my website soon.

For those of you out there writing, keep at it!  It's sometimes hard to face that computer, especially when the weather is nice outside, a friend has invited you out to play, or the kids have basketball, piano, homework and dance (after you've worked all day)  But set aside a little time for yourself.  Even a paragraph a day will add up and before you know it there's a chapter, then another.  Don't give up the dream!  Only you can make it happen.  Ask yourself what you really want, then stay focused, if only for that one hour.

Hope everyone has a good March--till April, all my best.
Barbara

KATHRYN HAIG BOOKS TO GO AUDIO
http://www.nettrends.com/kathrynhaig

Somehow this spring seems more beautiful than ever.  Are the daffodils really brighter?  Is the slowly warming air even clearer?  Or is it that this spring the political uncertainty makes us appreciate the precious moments.  Whatever your own views on the coming conflict may be, as an ex-soldier myself and the wife of an ex-soldier I am praying for our servicemen and women.

On a lighter note - I have high hopes of travelling to the States this summer, for only my second visit.  The first time I went with Hugh and Rachel to California and was amazed by the sheer size and variety of your country!  Two weeks wasn't nearly long enough, even for one state.  This time I hope to attend the the Romance Writers of America annual conference in New York.  It has long been an ambition of mine to attend and I've tried on several occasions, but somehow something always got in the way.  You know how it is - important school exams, a sick cat, my own hospital treatment - something.  But this time I'm absolutely determined.  Rachel - of course - will get there before me, as she is being sent to New York in June by her company as part of their training scheme.  Lucky girl!

In the meantime, I'm delighted to have sold all my books to Isis Publishing for release as word-for-word audio tapes.  This project will run over a few years and they are starting with A Time to Dance.  I'm quite excited already and looking forward to hearing the chosen reader's voice.

With best wishes to you all
Kathryn

DAR TOMLINSON'S UNBREAK MY HEART RELEASED
http://www.dartomlinson.com

Well...I'm sitting here in sunny--yet unseasonably cool, they tell me--Scottsdale waiting for the postman to ring twice.  Or once would be enough.  Even UPS would be welcome.  Why all the anticipation?  My latest single title romance, UNBREAK MY HEART, is in transit.  Not only to the stores, and to Amazon and Barnes & Nobel warehouses, but my author copies are winging their way to me.  This is not my first baby, but now I know why mothers opt for large families.  The thrill of holding the latest one in your hands never wanes.  The cover is wonderful--I have a stack of those (-:.  It depicts the Arizona desert at sundown, saguaro cactus, dead and living--believe it or not, there's nothing more intriguing than a petrified saguaro still standing against all odds--and an Arizona sunset, unique in all the world, in the last throes of sinking behind a boulder outcropping.   Yes, it is a romance, but the setting of UNBREAK MY HEART, Old Town Scottsdale and the Navajo reservation, is a secondary character, as the hero and heroine, Cameron and Lukas, fight not only their complicated attraction for each other, but the desert elements as well, including El Nino.  What?  Raining in the desert?  Yes, and it wreaks havoc with their mutual but differing goals of reconstructing an old inn.   Please check out my web sight at www.dartomlinson.com, as well as the Genesis Press web sight, www.genesis-press.com for a preview.  Once you've read UNBREAK MY HEART, I'd love to hear from you, as I'm considering a sequel.

For those of you who don't live in the Southwest, stay warm by the fire while reading a  romance.

Best regards,
Dar Tomlinson

DEBBIE MACOMBER HEADING FOR A GRANDKIDS FIX AND A GOAT REUNION
http://www.debbiemacomber.com

Hello Everyone,

By the time you read this Wayne and I will be leaving our winter home in Florida and driving across the country on our way back to Port Orchard, Washington.  I'm in desperate need of a grandkids fix, and while Wayne might not admit it, he misses his pygmy goats!

April is a big month for me.  BETWEEN FRIENDS, last year's hardcover, is coming out as a paperback.  The story spans from 1948 until present day.  Think of FORREST GUMP meets the YA YA SISTERHOOD and you'll get a bit of an idea what the book is like.  Basically it's the story of best friends told in a rather unique format.  My wish is that reading this book will touch you the same way it did me as I was writing it.

While everyone's thoughts are turning toward spring and Easter, I'm working on my 2004 Christmas gift hardcover with a tentative title of THE WORLD'S BEST FRUITCAKE THIS SIDE OF PUYALLUP, WASHINGTON.  It's a romantic comedy, and I'm having a grand time writing it.

Have a wonderful Easter, and I'll connect with you in May.

Debbie Macomber
