I will return home to a line-edit for MY NAME IS NELL, an October 2003 Superromance and further work on my current manuscript. But these days of R&R have been most welcome. By the time we get back, the first harbingers of spring–forsythia and redbud–will welcome us, to be followed by my favorite–the lovely wild dogwoods which grow in profusion in the Ozarks. Hello everyone,
If you're a romantic like me, you may love
Paris, too. Some of my fondest memories are of wandering along the
cobbled streets, stopping for espressos and croissants at some little
cafe, and then meandering down to the Seine. I adore the row of
bookstalls along the embankment, where everything from an American
romance novel to a gray East Bloc political thriller can be found.
The Hotel Diana is in the heart of Paris,
one of those tall, Haussmann buildings with rows of shutters on the
windows and a bidet in every bathroom. Half modern, half geriatric,
it's just that right combination for fun and adventure in the City of
Lights.
On the home front, I've just finished one
novel and am in the process of finishing another. For some insane
reason, I allowed two deadlines to come almost on top of each other.
So believe me, that vase of lovely posies was a welcome relief, and
now it's cheering me on.
Today my husband and I drive to Los
Angeles for The Mystery Bookstore's annual birthday bash, with lots of
authors, readers, and friends. Later this month, we'll be in
Fullerton for a Day of Authors, a special event that pours money into
charities. These days, that's particularly a good thing.
I send you all kinds of warm and happy
thoughts for a lovely spring wherever you live, and may we meet in
Paris!

Somehow this spring seems more beautiful
than ever. Are the daffodils really brighter? Is the slowly warming
air even clearer? Or is it that this spring the political uncertainty
makes us appreciate the precious moments. Whatever your own views on
the coming conflict may be, as an ex-soldier myself and the wife of an
ex-soldier I am praying for our servicemen and women.
On a lighter note - I have high hopes of
travelling to the States this summer, for only my second visit. The
first time I went with Hugh and Rachel to California and was amazed by
the sheer size and variety of your country! Two weeks wasn't nearly
long enough, even for one state. This time I hope to attend the the
Romance Writers of America annual conference in New York. It has long
been an ambition of mine to attend and I've tried on several
occasions, but somehow something always got in the way. You know how
it is - important school exams, a sick cat, my own hospital treatment
- something. But this time I'm absolutely determined. Rachel - of
course - will get there before me, as she is being sent to New York in
June by her company as part of their training scheme. Lucky girl!
In the meantime, I'm delighted to have
sold all my books to Isis Publishing for release as word-for-word
audio tapes. This project will run over a few years and they are
starting with A Time to Dance. I'm quite excited already and looking
forward to hearing the chosen reader's voice.
With best wishes to you all
Kathryn
Well...I'm
sitting here in sunny--yet unseasonably cool, they tell me--Scottsdale
waiting for the postman to ring twice. Or once would be enough. Even
UPS would be welcome. Why all the anticipation? My latest single title
romance, UNBREAK MY HEART, is in transit. Not only to the
stores, and to Amazon and Barnes & Nobel warehouses, but my author
copies are winging their way to me. This is not my first baby, but now
I know why mothers opt for large families. The thrill of holding the
latest one in your hands never wanes. The cover is wonderful--I have a
stack of those (-:. It depicts the Arizona desert at sundown, saguaro
cactus, dead and living--believe it or not, there's nothing more
intriguing than a petrified saguaro still standing against all odds--and
an Arizona sunset, unique in all the world, in the last throes of
sinking behind a boulder outcropping. Yes, it is a romance, but the
setting of UNBREAK MY HEART, Old Town Scottsdale and the Navajo
reservation, is a secondary character, as the hero and heroine, Cameron
and Lukas, fight not only their complicated attraction for each other,
but the desert elements as well, including El Nino. What? Raining in
the desert? Yes, and it wreaks havoc with their mutual but differing
goals of reconstructing an old inn. Please check out my web sight at
www.dartomlinson.com,
as well as the Genesis Press web sight,
www.genesis-press.com for
a preview. Once you've read UNBREAK MY HEART, I'd love to hear
from you, as I'm considering a sequel.
