July 2004 Newsletter

Next year I'm gonna go lay on the beach for a week and do nothing .
. . absolutely, positively, gloriously NOTHING. Yes, I know that
everyone wants to go to Disneyworld. But I am beginning to
believe that seven days in the Magic Kingdom has more to do with
work than vacation and I had to come home to rest up. At least
I didn't get a sunburn, but then I didn't get a tan either. I
was coated in spf 60 for a week. The highlight of the whole
week was an afternoon at Blizzard Beach floating around the river on
an innertube. Makes me want a season pass to Whitewater.
You think I'm getting too old for the heat and crowds down there?
Nah, I'm just waiting for my grandbaby to get big enough to go back.
I always feel kind of renewed every year after the fourth of
July. There's something about fireworks and patriotic music -
a reminder? Its almost like, "Hey! Our country made it through
another tough year!" and maybe I won't have to hold my breath
through the second six months. I hope you enjoyed your own
celebration. Here's looking forward to summer.

Hope you had a Happy
Fourth of July! COME CHECK OUT MY SUMMER BASKET I'll be giving away
on my website! It's a floral hat box, actually, with relaxing bath products,
potpourri and an autographed book. Also, I'll be giving away lots of FREE
BOOKS this summer, if you're signed up in my guest book, you're already
entered, if not, stop by my site and say hello! I just love to give stuff
away!
The summer is already sizzling here in California and my husband is so happy
with his new barbecue he's cooking up a storm. My tomatoes are big and green
on the vine, can't wait for my first one! I'm chained to my computer right
now, busy working on my next book. Later in the summer I'll take a few days
off, maybe find a beach and plop myself down with a good book.

Howdy,
y'all, from down on the farm.
We finally had the rain we so desperately needed!!!!!!!!! The ponds
are full and the pastures are beginning to grow. Ah, things are
going good on the ranch. As for writing, my new book TEXAS BRIDE
the Harlequin historical should be out. I hope you enjoy it--lots of
action, adventure and romance. I'm also doing the final corrections
for the Christmas anthology historical that will be out in October
and the historical western--THE LAST HONEST OUTLAW--that is
scheduled for December. Plus, I've just started the second book on
my 3-book contract--a western set near Dodge City, Kansas. The
half-breed bounty hunter, Black Wolf, thought his life was
complicated until Julia Preston comes thundering into his camp to
turn his life upside down. Nothing more fun that taking a capable
hero and tossing a feisty female in his path. Poor guy still doesn't
know what hit him. But he'll figure it out before the last chapter.

July!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sincerely, Carol Finch, Connie Feddersen, et

We have survived the
move into the new house, a delinquent painter, stormy weather, and
the birth of almost twenty new foals on the ranch. We are finally
home. I wake up to deer grazing in the north pasture behind the
house, turkeys along the creek and hummingbirds in the flower pots
on the front porch. Every day is a blessing, and so is the man with
whom I share it.
We have had my two youngest granddaughters several weekends in a row
due to their older sister's fast pitch softball games and enjoyed
them thoroughly. Logan is eight and Leslie is seven, and while they
couldn't be more different in personalities, they are as close as
two sisters could possibly be. They play so good together and love
each other dearly. It makes me remember my sister, Diane, and how
much we did together, but it also makes me miss her. I so wish she
was still living so that we could share the latter part of our lives
with each other, as we did when we were younger. I guess that's a
lesson to us all to never take anything for granted because we never
know when it will be taken from us.

Whipporwill |
On a business note, I have a couple of books coming out in July. The
re-issue of WHIPPOORWILL, by Harlequin, comes out in July,
and it's sequel, THE AMEN TRAIL, comes out from Loveland
Press in hardback the same month. There will be one more book in
that trilogy before it's over. Hope you all enjoy reading them as
much as I have loved writing them. Letty Murphy and Eulis Potter are
the oddest odd couple you will ever read about, and yet somehow they
manage to connect with each other as well as my readers.

Happy Summer
Everyone,
Those dog days of summer are upon us and I for one am enjoying every
minute.
I’d hoped to laze around a bit this summer, work half days on Friday
and get together with friends--and I am—well, for the most part. But
something exciting and new has happened that’s turned everything
around.
Thanks to all of you for making THE SHOP ON BLOSSOM STREET so
successful, it was decided at the last possible second that I would
write a sequel. So, I’m up to my elbows in developing four new plot
lines starring a cast of knitters. I love it already. Yes, it’s a
lot of extra effort, and I wasn’t planning to work this hard this
summer, but I’m in writer’s heaven. That’s the place where the story
falls together and the pages fly and I know I’ve got a fabulous book
in the works. Next May when A GOOD YARN is released, you’ll
know what I mean.

Right now NAVY WOMAN is in the stores and has already made
the Top 50 USA TODAY Best-selling Books List – time to celebrate!
This is a reprint of a book I wrote in the early 1990s and the
fourth in the five-book series. NAVY WOMAN is probably the
sexiest of all my books, so remember, I gave you fair warning!
