February 2006 Newsletter

So, how romantic are you going to get on Valentine's Day this year?  Do you usually sit back and wait for your spouse/significant other to do something for you?  Why not turn the tables this year and do something for him/her?  Maybe something he/she won't expect?  Start thinking!  You have almost two weeks, and this year Valentine's Day falls on a Sunday.  Hmmm.  Wonder what I'm going to come up with this year.  After 36 years of marriage, we should both get a medal for longevity at the very least.  Of course, I'm easy.  The words Godiva or Ghiradelli make anything a winner on my Valentine card.  Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours.

JILL MARIE LANDIS
http://www.jillmarielandis.com

After two months in California, Jill Marie Landis is back in Hawaii getting down to business. Never mind that the weather in the islands has been sunny and warm, she’s been at the computer writing and lining up appearances while last summer’s release, HEARTBREAK HOTEL (Ballantine Hardcover 2005), continues to garner awards.

This month, Library Journal announced the winners of the Best Genre books of 2005 and HEARTBREAK HOTEL was named one of the Top Five Romances! Check out the complete list of all the genre books (mystery, science fiction, romance, thriller, Christian and others)at: http://www.libraryjournal.com/article/CA6299507.html

At the end of July, Jill will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, to join fellow writers at the National Romance Writers of America conference at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel. As always, the organization will host a massive “Readers for Life” autographing featuring most all of the authors in attendance. Funds raised are donated to causes that fight illiteracy. Last year the group raised $60,000 in three hours at the conference in Reno, Nevada.

Jill Marie plans to celebrate Valentine’s Day by whipping up a chocolate chip and tofu pie. She claims. “It sounds gross but tastes GREAT!” You’ll find the recipe on her blog at www.jillmarielandis.com/blog

Hello to all the romantics,

This is the month for you to shine. Valentine candy, stuffed animals, flowers and most elegant greeting cards abound. As I was standing around waiting for a prescription to be filled at Walgreens the other day, I took a stroll down the candy isle, just to see what was there.
Of course there were heart-shaped boxes of every kind of chocolate. Looking at them brought back the memory of when I got my first box. What made it so special was that it was from my Daddy. I think I was about eleven or twelve, not sure about the age, but I sure remember what that box looked like. It was bright yellow with a big red flower stuck in the middle of the box. (Daddy was color-blind) He thought the box was red and the flower was black. Why he thought a black flower would be pretty didn't occur to me at the time. I've laughed about it in later years, but it was, at the time, the most glorious thing I'd ever been given. I had the box for years, long after the candy was gone.
As I moved on down the aisle at Walgreens, I ran into the cartoon genre of candy. There was Care Bear and Sponge Bob chocolates, M&Ms in about twelve different styles of containers, and a candy I found particularly odd, candy necklaces and bracelets made out of something that looked like tiny Sweet Tarts. How handy. Hungry? Have a bite of whatever that is that's hanging around your neck. So what if it's a little sticky from being chewed on? So what if the colors from the candies have transferred themselves upon your shirts? And, if a necklace is a little over the top for your loved one, try the bracelet instead.
I was still laughing as I moved to the stuffed animals, which by the way, or soooo my favorites.
I can understand stuffed dogs, cats, bunnies, even the occasional 'cute' stuffed chick or two, but the idea of gorillas and elephants being appropriate romantic figures was lost on me, especially the gorilla that had his finger up his nose. However, I did know a boy in grade school who practiced that habit all the time, but I certainly wasn't going to hunt him up and give him that stuffed gorilla as a reminder. I'm sure he would be properly humiliated by now... or, maybe not.
Some of the stuffed animals had miniature containers of candy attached to them. That's good marketing. Two for the price of one. Some of the large boxes of candy had a tiny stuffed animal attached to them. Again, a two for the price of one, bargain. My favorites were the small, soft puppies that had heart-shaped spots on their bodies and a little black nose that was heart shaped as well. Ooooh. so cute.
Then, just as I was about to break down and purchase some candy for myself, knowing full well that there would be nobody around this year to buy it for me, I heard my name being called over the loudspeaker. My prescription was ready back in pharmacy.
With one last regretful look at the candy... and the extra five pounds... that I was leaving behind, I went to get my medicine.
Thus, I have shared with you, a bit of a day in the life of a romance writer. I am an ordinary woman, but I will admit to being a romantic.
I urge all of you to give in to the romantic in yourselves and splurge just a bit. If there's no one around to buy you flowers, or candy, or send you a card in this month for lovers, then do it for yourself. You must love yourself first, before you can learn how to share it with others. And I can't think of a better way to say "I'm all right with myself and the world" than to say it with chocolate and a good romance book.

Happy Valentine's Day,

Howdy, y'all from down on the farm. Think rain!!!!!! Is this the dust-bowl days revisited? Yikes, Okla. is drying up and blowing away. Either that or burning up with fires. Hopefully spring is just around the corner and we'll get some precipitation to fill the ponds and revitalize the pastures.
As for writing, I'm hard at work on the first book of a new contract for Harlequin Historicals. It's set in the territorial days of Oklahoma and is a fast-paced adventure and suspense that features Fletcher Hawk, the brother of Logan Hawk, who is the hero of THE RANGER-- which will be out in June.
Valentine's Day to y'all. Here's wishing you Love and Laughter and Romance!!!
Connie Feddersen aka Carol Finch, Gina Robins, Debra Falcon, Connie Drake

Ah, February, the month of romance! I’m thinking about chocolates, wine and a good romance to read. Yup, you’ve come to the perfect place. HEARTS DIVIDED, an anthology written with Katherine Stone and Lois Faye Dyer, is available this month. This is the story of war brides and long ago love. I’m very excited about these stories and know you’re going to enjoy them, too. As I said, logging onto www.debbiemacomber.com, is a great way to kick start this month. There’s always something new to check out, so step on over that welcome mat and take a look around.

By the way, I dearly love hearing from my readers, and I want to make sure you enjoy your visit. I know everyone enjoys winning things, so every month I give away several autographed books via my website. If you haven't already, you must – you absolutely must – sign the
guestbook. If you do, you'll receive a monthly e-mail letter from me. Not only am I friendly, but I've been known to be witty and entertaining, too. These communications are also – you guessed it – FREE. Besides the wit and charm (Did I mention I'm humble?), I offer scintillating details of my life, cute things my grandkids say and keep you updated on my husband's and my adventures. I'll let you know what's happening with my books, where I'm signing and speaking. If you've signed the guestbook with your street address, you'll also receive my annual newsletter.

In case you didn't know, I'm
blogging now, so be sure to take a gander at that.
Blogging sounds to me like dancing in a pair of wooden shoes, but it's actually a daily dose of me, my thoughts and a taste of my quirky sense of humor. Log on, and let me know what you think.

For those of you who love to eat as much as I do, there's a
Recipe Exchange here on my website. (Think of this as a Frequent Eaters' Club for those who enjoy good food as much as I do.) Take a look around. My readers are some of the best cooks in the world! Now and again I'll post a recipe I've discovered, one that's just too good to keep to myself. By all means post a recipe of your own. Each month I chose a favorite recipe, and the winner receives a bunch of goodies, including an apron and autographed book. Again, all this is FREE. See, this site really is worth checking out!

If you're hooked on the
Cedar Cove series – and I hope you are – I periodically send out newsletters (which include a recipe!) from one of the characters in the series to keep you abreast of what's happening in this charming town. Again, if you want to receive the Cedar Cove updates, you've got to be on my reader e-list.

On the
main page of my website you'll find a list of my books out this year.

On the
Book List page, there's a list of all my published novels. (Some of you might be surprised by the number of books I've written over the years. I like to say it only took me twenty years to be an overnight success.) If the books are in a series, then the titles are listed in the order in which they were published (note the year of publication). Each series is marked by a certain number of asterisks (Dakota series = one asterisk; Heart of Texas series, two, etc.) There is also a special page just for my books in a series. Also on the
main page, you'll see cover proofs for upcoming novels long before the books hit the stores. (This gives you an idea of what to look for!)

Also be sure to check out
Debbie's Store. I sell everything in the store at my cost in order to keep the prices exceptionally reasonable. You'll even find Cedar Cove T-shirts in an array of sizes. There are totes, and mugs, knitting notion pouches, and a variety of other goodies so check it out.

As a national board member for the charity organization, WARM-UP AMERICA!, I'd like to urge my readers to knit 7" by 9" patches to make up blankets for a number of worthy projects. You can mail these to the national organization (for information, click on
http://www.WarmUpAmerica.org) or link with other knitters, or those who crochet, to form a blanket to be given to charity in your own area. Please let me know when you do, and I'll send you a small gift to thank you for your volunteer efforts.
For those of you who are as nuts about knitting as I am, Leisure Arts has published two gorgeous "Knit Along with Debbie" pattern booklets, one for THE SHOP ON BLOSSOM STREET and one for A GOOD YARN. (I’m walking on Cloud Nine!) Look for these pattern booklets at your favorite craft or yarn retail outlet. You can find out more about the books and how to order on
www.leisurearts.com or from your local yarn store. Late breaking news—these pattern books have proved to be so popular that I’ve just signed a contract for more pattern books—details to follow.

While you’re here take a look at the photos in the
Scrapbook section. The most recent additions are from the Harlequin party during the 2005 National Romance Writers of America Conference in Reno, NV. You’ll see that Wayne and I raised shy and demure children. Besides Jody, Dale and our daughter-in-law, Laurie, there are a couple of other familiar faces.

I'm glad you're here. February is a fabulous month. I'd like to suggest you cuddle up with a good book. It would honor me if it were one of mine.
