December/January 2005 Newsletter

Wishing you and yours a very happy holiday season
and the very best for 2006!

As I sit here struggling to get all of my end of year "stuff" finished before the end of the year, I am left wondering where in the world 2005 went.  I'm sure it isn't because I'm getting older and time is passing faster. It must be that I've had such a good time in 2005 I didn't notice the days flying by.  When I look back over the year, I have so much to be thankful for yet am saddened for those who have so little. The world still isn't perfect but I hope to see us all work towards the day it is.

We celebrated Christmas early this year and we get to celebrate again this weekend. We share the holidays with the other set of grandparents and take turns.  This year our granddaughter was two - old enough to know all about presents, yet not quite old enough to grasp what the season is all about.  Nonetheless, she had big, bright stars in her eyes.  What a joy grandchildren are.  I hope to have lots and lots more.

That's all for this month.

Dear Reader Friends,

I love this time of year and, if you’ve kept track of the number of Christmas books I’ve written through the years, it’s pretty apparent how I feel about the holidays. There’s something magical about Christmas. It’s a season of miracles. Wait, I wrote a book about that. It’s called Mrs. Miracle and it’s been out of print for years and years. But wait . . . yes, the rumor is true. This month you can actually find the long lost Mrs. Miracle and enjoy that story all over again. See--didn’t I tell you this is the season of miracles, the season of joy? So, enjoy this month and when you’re finished with all the shopping, baking, and decorating, relax with a good book. It would honor me if it happened to be one of mine.

On a personal note, Wayne and I leave Christmas evening for our annual trek to Florida, with a stop along way to visit with good friends in Las Vegas. I’m betting that we have a fabulous time!

Here’s wishing the same for you!

December 2005

Greetings one and all!

I'm writing from California where it's a bit chilly, but I think most of you who live in other states would laugh at that one. Chilly is relative, I guess.

As is our tradition, we're back in our California home to spend Christmas with our family and friends. We've never spent Christmas in Hawaii and to tell you the truth, it's really hard to get in the spirit of the season when the temperature is 83 degrees and the palms are swaying. We arrived in Long Beach in early December and I put myself in a Christmas mood by stacking the CDs in the player and cranking up the carols. There's nothing like a good rendition of Jingle Bell Rock and bopping around the living room to get the holiday spirit flowing.

We're making some life changes in the New Year, but I'll save all that news for another newsletter. If you check the new BLOG on my website at www.jillmarielandis.com you can keep up with all the goings on in my life in both California and Hawaii and points in between.

Thank you all for the many wonderful notes that you've left on the website this past year. The response to Heartbreak Hotel has been fabulous, the compliments have been very inspirational to me. Just what I needed this year to keep me going.

I wish you the very best that you can wish for yourself and your families this holiday season. Here's hoping you have a wonderful time no matter where or how you celebrate and the very best New Year in 2006.

Fondly,
Jill Marie

Dear Readers:

It is holiday time and the spirit of Christmas is in all of us, even those who are adjusting to a life without a special loved one. My agent just lost her mother and my own mother has suffered two heart attacks since we've moved in together. It was very frightening, but prayers were answered. She's recovering nicely and it's really cool to be living with her again. We absolutely do not argue, probably because I'm the last person who ever wants to be in charge of anything.

My November book, THE CHOSEN, was a success, achieving high ratings on different best seller lists.
I'm hard at work writing the Sala book that will be out in the fall of 2006. It's called NINE LIVES and is about a police detective hero and a bounty hunter heroine. It will be the first in a series of three books about these two characters and I'm really enjoying the process.

We're going to have a three-day marathon of holiday dinners and family beginning at noon on Christmas Eve and it's all at my house. I keep thinking to myself, "oh my lord, what was I thinking?" but them I remind myself it's only once a year and I don't have to load up and drive anywhere.

We had a couple of days of snow here in Oklahoma already, which is somewhat rare. Oklahoma doesn't get a lot of snowfall although it can be bitter cold. Usually, we're dealing with strong winds that dump the wind chill into the polar regions and/or sleet and ice. I hate sleet and ice. It always freezes on the electric lines and poles, which causes them to break off and then thousands and thousands of people can be without power for long periods of time.

I've stocked up on lots of hot chocolate mix just in case that's what's ahead, which, now that I say that, sounds pretty silly. My stove is electric. If the power goes out, I'll be calling my son-in-law to come set up his camping equipment for me. I'll have my hot chocolate, prepared on a propane camping stove, or know the reason why.

I want you to know that as we're saying the blessing on Christmas Day, I'll be thinking of all of you, who, through the years have supported me and my work in such a faithful fashion.

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for buying the stories I write, and then for sharing them with others who love to read.

Your presence in my life is so appreciated.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays,
Sharon Sala

"Happy Holidays to everyone! And all best wishes for a wonderful new year! Just want to say that I'm still practicing the 'Ten Pearls of Wisdom ...' and they still get me through the 'living of life' that we all experience. Take Care!"

Thanks,
Eleanor Jacobs
